In the last few months of 2025, AI has been increasingly used by workers from all industries, including UX designers. Although it causes a lot of polemics due to copyright and creativity issues, we as designers can be wiser in using it in our workflow. Based on research by Khan et al. (2025), they found that UI/UX designers valued AI tools that offer greater control over the ideation process, streamline collaboration and feedback loops, automate repetitive tasks to liberate creativity, and go beyond textual prompting. So let me explain some of the ways I use AI to help simplify my workflow.

Conducting User Research

As designers, we may have experienced the problem of how difficult it is to train our empathy in understanding how users will interact with the product. That’s where AI can help us in adding new insights from our understanding while conducting user research.

However, understanding users cannot be completely left to AI. As designers and humans, we also need to empathize as users/humans in interacting with products. AI is just a tool to help us add insights that we may not have thought of when trying to use the product.

Layout Exploration

Apart from looking at Dribbble, Pinterest, and Mobbin sites, I also use AI to find the right layout. However, to generate the right layout we also need to pay attention to how we type the prompt we want. Usually, for layout matters I use Claude.ai to help me generate the layout I want.

The advantage of using Claude.ai in generating layouts is that we can create layouts that are specific in solving our problems. Sometimes when we explore ideas by searching on the sites I mentioned above, we can’t find the right solution to the problems we find.

However, on the other hand, Claude also has shortcomings in terms of generating layouts. Claude will generate in the form of code and make a preview directly. However, generating code takes a relatively long time compared to generating images. It takes about 1–3 minutes for Claude to generate the layout we want, and it can take longer if our prompt is very specific.

Copywriting in UX Design

Not all UI/UX designers have UX writing skills that can meet the needs of the product. For example, I am also sometimes confused about what kind of language style to use, what kind of sentence, or how much we should include in the product. That’s where AI can help us with copywriting. I usually use ChatGPT in this case because it is faster and more responsive.

I usually use AI for copywriting that is not too major in design. For example, when I need headers, captions, price lists, features, or plan types in the pricing section. Another thing that AI can help with is in creating dummy data, a person’s profile, or a product description when we create a design.

Prompting Example

So that you don’t get confused in reading the examples I mentioned above, I will give some examples of how I usually use prompts to help my design work.

Generating Layout

As I explained above, I usually use generate code from Claude.ai to help find other layouts that I hadn’t thought of. From the layouts generated by Claude, it usually opens the way for other ideas to create a new layout.

As you can see, I used a slightly detailed prompt so that I could get the most out of it. From the prompt, I got the idea of a Claude layout like this:

Although the layout is very unpredictable, it can open up another pathway of ideas to enter our thought process. from this process, I usually get new ideas from Claude and start designing.

Conclusion

The use of AI in creative work such as UI/UX designers may have many pros and cons. However, we as designers also undeniably need AI in our daily work. Do not make AI replace our work, but make it a support in doing our work. Also, we cannot fully rely on AI, we as creative workers also still need to sharpen our brains in terms of creativity, empathy, and exploration. So that we can still be quality and effective designers in doing our daily work.
